As most will know LinkedIn is become one of the most important networks for professionals, at the moment particularly for those in finance, media, advertising and technology. This ever-growing social network for professionals allows individuals to create profile online, connect and communicate with peers, establish yourself as a leader in your field and be a font of knowledge.
Good LinkedIn Profile – Step 1
Make sure you profile is 100% complete
This will help you rank in searches, not only for your name (handy if you have a popular name Steve Simpson) but also for your chosen market / specialism.
Reaching 100% profile completeness is a must.
Good LinkedIn Profile – Step 2Your profile must be visible to more than just your connections
Go to your account settings and turn on visibility settings – No point being on there is no one can see you!
Good LinkedIn Profile – Step 3Add suitable connections
You have to make the decision, are you going to be an Open Networker, connect with anyone, everyone that requests or just to connect to either people you know and have dealt with, this is my preferred options, so it’s people I work with, previous work colleague, friends etc.
You can identify a lot of ‘Open Networkers’ as they are identified as LION (LinkedIn Open Networker)
LinkedIn provides a useful ‘People You May Know’ functionality (under Contacts). Whilst you might not know all people on that list, you will find many people you haven’t thought about too.
I am writing the next steps that I hope you will find helpful
